The US-based president of Congress’s overseas wing had advocated the need for a US-style inheritance tax in India to reduce inequality via wealth redistribution.

At a recent election rally in Rajasthan, Modi attacked the Congress party, claiming the scheme to redistribute wealth was a ploy to find out who owned how much money and gold and distribute it among Muslims and infiltrators.

“One of their leaders (Pitroda) gave an interview in America. He spoke about a 55% tax on property. I am talking about virasat (inheritance), and they are about looting it and wealth redistribution. That is their history. What else will they do? It is my responsibility to tell people that this is what they plan to do,” Modi said.

He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no plans to impose any such tax. ”What the Bharatiya Janata Party plans to do is written in our manifesto. How does the thought that we will carry forward their plan even come to your mind? The ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party is clear. We go before the country with our manifesto and works. Please don’t impose their great thoughts on us,” Modi said.

Recently, at an election rally in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur, Modi said the dangerous intentions of the Congress are coming to the fore one by one, and now “it says it will impose inheritance tax”.’ The advisor of ‘shehzada’ (a reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi) of the ‘shahi parivar’, who was also the advisor to the shehzada’s father, said that more tax should be imposed on the middle class and those who earn by toiling hard,” Modi said, apparently referring to Rahul Gandhi and Pitroda. The Congress will impose a tax on the assets inherited by people from their parents, he said, claiming that the “panja” (Congress’s poll symbol) will snatch the assets from their children.”

Congress ka mantra hai Congress ki loot ‘zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi’ (Congress’ mantra is looting people when they are alive and afterwards too),” he said, referring to the tagline of state-run insurer Life Insurance Corp. of India.
