The two-time World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir is currently the front-runner to become India's next Head Coach. As of the latest reports, he is likely to step into the role soon after the T20 WC 2024 concludes.

However, a fresh set of reports by Navbharat Times state that Gambhir, who recently met the BCCI's Cricket Administrative Committee (CAC), expressed some conditions before taking up the coveted role.

One of these conditions, is that if senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and more fail to help India win the tournament, they would be dropped from the team.

Gautam Gambhir's conditions to become India head coach:

Gambhir wants to have full control over the cricket operations of Team India.

He has also asked to be allowed to choose his own support staff after his appointment.

His biggest condition of all: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami will be sacked if they fail to perform in upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

The 3-time IPL winner (twice as skipper and then as mentor in IPL 2024), Gambhir wants a separate team for Test cricket.

And lastly, start the preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup from the very beginning.

Talking about Gambhir's thoughts on becoming India's next head coach, he said:

“I don't see that far ahead. You are grilling me, asking me all tough questions. It is difficult to answer right now. All I can say right now is that I am happy being here. Just finished a brilliant journey with Kolkata Knight Riders let's enjoy that. I am in a very happy space right now."

However, there has been no official announcement from either Gambhir or BCCI regarding these reports. Moreover, it wasn't just Gambhir but also VVS Laxman who applied for the head coach position.
