In one of the most exciting chases of the IPL 2024 season, Marcus Stoinis pulled off an impossible win for LSG by chasing down 211 runs against the power-packed bowling unit of CSK with his maiden IPL century.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s hundred propelled CSK to 210 runs by the end of the first half of the CSK-LSG clash. While the ask was tough in Chepauk, LSG had the belief, and despite openers' wickets, Marcus Stoinis walked out in the middle to seemingly take down CSK alone.

He smashed an extraordinary and gritty maiden IPL century and stayed till the end to lead LSG through the finish line. He finished with 124 runs in 63 deliveries and helped LSG record a splendid win.

Meanwhile, in a post-game interview, Stoinis admitted that he likes to have time to build the innings rather than just attack on the trot in the death.

"Look I think in these competitions, there are many better opening partnerships than me. But I'm comfortable when I get some time to build my innings," Stoinis said.

He added that his innings versus CSK weren’t just about hitting right, left, and center. Apparently, the batter planned his innings while taking precautions against certain notable bowlers.

"You have to take the precautions. You have to pick the bowlers you will go against. There are many ebbs and flows and you have to take control of that. On the inside, the planning is structuring. You like some bowlers and you don't like some," he added.

Marcus Stoinis also added that the T20 format is constantly evolving. With the addition of the impact rule, he’s seen teams attack the opposition aggressively.

"I do think the game is changing. Watching the other teams, it is certainly changing. The impact rule is also playing a part. I see the teams playing aggressively and taking down the opposition in the powerplays. Maybe, that's the way to go," the LSG batter said further.

Stoinis lastly hinted that his prolific century was a subtle message to Cricket Australia to reconsider his spot for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

"I have got a great relation with the coach. Not getting the contract, I knew it way before and I'm okay with it. It's about giving the younger guys a chance to take up my spot and take the team ahead. On the playing front, I would like to have a go. I started my career pretty much here and hopefully, I'll finish it here," he concluded.

While he happily gave up his central contract earlier this year for the sake of youngsters, Stoinis still wants to represent his country on the playing front.
