NTA Also Files An Affidavit Against Cancellation of NEET-UG ExamAfter Centre, another affidavit was filed by the Nation Testing Agency, which conducts the NEET-UG examination, in response to one of the petitions in the top court. “Scrapping the exam in its entirety would seriously jeopardize the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024,” the affidavit mentioned. The Centre submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court on Friday opposing the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam since the results have already been announced. They also stated that a panel has been established to provide recommendations for the fair conduct of the exams.

The government argued that “in the absence of proof of any large-scale breach of confidentiality in a pan-India examination, it would not be rational to scrap the entire examination and the results already declared.”

The government also mentioned that the Ministry of Education has formed a High-Level Committee of Experts after the current examination to propose effective measures for conducting transparent, smooth, and fair exams by the National Testing Agency.

What Will The Committee Do?

According to the government, the Committee will make recommendations on Reforms in the mechanism of the examination process, improvement in data security protocols and the structure and functioning of the National Testing Agency.

The said Committee is headed by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman,

ISRO and Chairman, BoG, IIT Kanpur and it will submit its report in two months.

NTA Also Files An Affidavit Against Cancellation of NEET-UG Exam

After Centre, another affidavit was filed by the Nation Testing Agency, which conducts the NEET-UG examination, in response to one of the petitions in the top court.

It said the alleged incident/attempt of leak does not seem to have any bearing on the conduct of the entire examination held on May 5, as the number of candidates found to be involved by the investigating agencies is minuscule compared to several candidates who appeared.

“Scrapping the exam in its entirety would seriously jeopardize the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024,” the affidavit mentioned.

The agency said the NEET-UG 2024 exam was carried out fairly and with due confidentiality in entirety without any illegal practices and the claim of “mass malpractice” is “completely unfounded, misleading, and lacks any basis”.

NTA also added that the alleged malpractices were reported only in Patna and Godhra centres and the entire exam should not be cancelled based on individual instances.

The top court is scheduled to hear on July 8 a batch of pleas, including those alleging irregularities in the examination held on May 5 and seeking a direction that it be conducted afresh.

Allegations of irregularities, including paper leaks, have led to protests in several cities and sparring between rival political parties.
