Not Virat Kohli Or Rohit Sharma! Brian Lara Picks 22-Year-Old Indian As Top Run-Getter In T20 WC 2024

After Picking Ponting took a major hunt and predicted Travis Head to become the top run-getter in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Brian Lara made a bold prediction, snubbed Rohit Sharma , Surykumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli , and predicted a future star of the Indian cricket team to dominate the mega event. The West Indies great picked Yashasvi Jaiswal to become the highest run-getter of the mega event despite his poor run of form in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Rajasthan Royals. Lara was the only one to pick Jaiswal in his prediction, as Virat Kohli dominated the experts pick, with Travis Head, Jos Buttler , David Warner and Rohit Sharma also getting mentions. Most cricket experts picked Virat Kohli

With just two days left for the carnival of cricket to begin as the 2024 T20 World Cup is set to kick off in the United States of America (USA) and West Indies on June 1, the predictions from cricket experts are coming in fast, with former players putting their bets on who the top teams will be and which players will take the tag of top run-getter and wicket-taker.

"This guy has got a big future and has has got a couple of centuries in the IPL," said Lara on Star Sports.

Lara was the only one to pick Jaiswal in his prediction, as Virat Kohli dominated the experts pick, with Travis Head, Jos Buttler , David Warner and Rohit Sharma also getting mentions.

Jaiswal has a stunning record in international cricket since his debut nearly 12 months ago. While his Test cricket exploits have earned praise, he has made a big mark on T20Is too, having made 502 runs in 16 innings with an average of 33.5 and a strike rate of 161.9 with one century and four half-centuries.

However, his dream run of form over the last year had a major hiccup in IPL 2024 as he could not replicate the success of 2023 for the Rajasthan Royals this season. The left-handed opener made 435 runs in 16 matches at an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 155.91, with one century and half a century each to his name.

Lara has not hidden his admiration for the Indian starlet and recently claimed the 22-year-old can break his records.

"If I feel my records are threatened, Jaiswal has got a very good chance to do so. He has got capabilities, couple of double hundreds already. He is that good," said Lara to Press Trust of India (PTI) last month.
