The company established an AI R&D Center in Shenzhen in February to develop proprietary AI technologies and is partnering with tech giants like Google , Microsoft , MediaTek and Qualcomm for AI features on devices.Oppo says that its AI Center focuses on core areas like image processing, computer vision, and natural language processing. It emphasises user data privacy and says that it does not use user data for training AI models. The company utilises third-party certifications, end-to-end encryption, and confidential computing to secure user data.Oppo says that it has already rolled out over 100 generative AI features on its phones in 2024 and holds over 5,399 AI patents globally. Oppo is partnering with Google, Microsoft, and MediaTek to bolster the AI capabilities of its smartphones.The company's flagship line will integrate Google's Gemini family of large language models (LLMs), enabling features like AI Writer and AI Recording Summary.Furthermore, Oppo is working with Microsoft to improve voice and text conversion using Microsoft Fast Transcription and Neural TTS technologies. This collaboration will streamline audio recording transcription and strengthen the connection between desktop AI and Oppo smartphones, it said.Additionally, by year’s end, Oppo users will be able to use desktop Copilot on a connected PC to generate content, translate messages and search for addresses on their phones.Oppo and MediaTek are developing chipsets with dedicated AI processing units (NPUs) and accelerators for smoother performance and efficient AI processing. Additionally, the companies are working on custom AI frameworks that leverage MediaTek's expertise while creating unique features for Oppo devices.
