OTT releases this week: 10 new movies and shows coming on Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, JioCinema and more

This week will see new OTT releases in Malayalam, Hindi, Hollywood and Korean. In the first week and first Friday of June, here are the films and web-series that have and will drop on various OTT platforms. The film stars an ensemble cast with Mouni Roy and Sunil Grover. The film, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, stars starring Pranav Mohanlal, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Nivin Pauly. In the film, directed by Collin Schiffli, the lovers, played by Justin Chatwin and Alexandra Daddario, encounter dangerous opposition from an assortment of schemers and killers, including their own families.

Get bowls of popcorn ready for the weekend, as a number of films and shows which released on OTTs this week, will keep you hooked to the screen.

June 1 saw the OTT release of the 2024 Oscar winner for visual effects, Japan’s Godzilla Minus One, made on a small budget of $15 million. It made 10 times its budget at the global box office, and now the post-World War 2 kaiju (monster) film is streaming on Netflix. Godzilla Minus One is the first ever nomination and win at the Academy Awards ever for the 70-year-old Godzilla franchise and Takashi Yamazaki is only the second director to win the VFX category in Oscars’ history.

June is packed with scintillating OTT releases. This week will see new OTT releases in Malayalam, Hindi, Hollywood and Korean. The Legend of Hanuman Season 4, June 5, Disney+ Hotstar

In the new season of the animated series, the immortal vaanar sena god takes on the sleeping demon. As Kumbhkaran wakes up to wage war, Hanuman too must rise to his potential as 'gyan gunn sagar'. Hanuman will recall the power of chanting the name of Ram this season, as the heart and mind become battlegrounds, too. Expect great banter from Hanuman as well, as he taunts Kumbhkaran for his outdated threats.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, June 6, Netflix

The Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer had released a day earlier than scheduled on April 11. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the blockbuster film also stars Disha Patani, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F and south film superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran as the villain and is an out and out action film with a comic streak. In it, two elite soldiers with troubled pasts are enlisted for a daring mission to take on a deadly masked villain who threatens India's defenses.

Blackout, June 7, Jio Cinema

Last year, Vikrant Massey won the hearts of the masses with his role of an IAS aspirant in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 12th Fail. Massey who has vowed in the past, especially as the gentle, sensitive Shutu in Konkona Sensharma's film A Death in a Gunj (2016). Gear up to watch him in a comedy thriller, directed by Devang Bhavsar, that explores human greed and chaos. The film stars an ensemble cast with Mouni Roy and Sunil Grover. Massey, who's a crime reporter, is out on the streets of Pune on a night when there is load-shedding in the entire city. He bumps into gold treasure, which he robs, and then gets entangled in a web of greed and misfortune, as a motley crowd asks him for a lift in his car, and a police car chases them. This one promises to be a thrilling ride which takes a dark turn.

Hit Man, June 7, Netflix

Richard Linklater’s delightfully fun New Orleans crime thriller starring Glen Powell, a dark comedy base on Skip Hollandsworth’s 2001 Texas Monthly magazine’s eponymous article. In the film, a part-time officer works as an undercover hitman to stop crime but the situation goes out of control when he develops feelings for a potential client.

Gullak Season 4, June 7, SonyLIV

Annu, Aman, Shanti and Santosh return to OTT for a fourth time. The Mishra’s middle-class family dramas and squabbles have made their bond stronger over the seasons. This season, Shanti and Santosh’s parenting skills will be up against Aman Mishra’s adulting. The TVF show stars Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Harsh Mayar, Sunita Rajwar, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Saad Bilgrami, Helly Shah and Manuj Sharma, among others.

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, June 7, Disney+ Hotstar

This biography drama follows the rise of Karl Lagerfeld in the 1970s Parisian fashion world and his rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent's partner Pierre Berge, as well as his love story with Jacques de Bascher. Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel for more than 35 years at the time of his death in 2019, met Yves Saint Laurent in the 1950s during a competition. Both their careers grew from that point on. Though different in their approach to fashion, their vying for the attentions of a man named Jacques de Bascher turned them into more bitter rivals.

Varshangalkku Shesham, June 7, Disney+ Hotstar

The title is translated as "Years Later" of this Malayalam film, which is the story of two friends set in two different time periods. Two boys, Murali and Venu, hailing from northern Kerala, who leave their hometown to earn money and become big in the world of cinema, meet coincidentally and become friends. While one of them becomes a successful director, the other one fails to make it big. The duo plan to work together but face new challenges. Will they be able to overcome these unexpected hurdles? The film, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, stars starring Pranav Mohanlal, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Nivin Pauly.

Perfect Match Season 2, June 7, Netflix

Season 2 of the reality show will chronicle the singles' journeys to the finale in the search for true love.

Die in a Gunfight, June 7, Lionsgate Play

In New York City, a young guy falls for the daughter of his father's nemesis. In the film, directed by Collin Schiffli, the lovers, played by Justin Chatwin and Alexandra Daddario, encounter dangerous opposition from an assortment of schemers and killers, including their own families.

Hierarchy, June 7, Netflix

An upcoming South Korean teen romance television series written by Chu Hye-mi, directed by Bae Hyeon-jin, and starring Roh Jeong-eui, Lee Chae-min, Kim Jae-won, Ji Hye-won, and Lee Won-jung.
