A 24-year-old YouTuber, Saad Ahmed, was shot dead by a security guard in Pakistan last week while filming a vlog on India vs Pakistan cricket match in T20 World Cup 2024.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Ahmed was having a conversation with shopkeepers about the cricket match as part of the build-up for the India vs Pakistan match in New York that was scheduled on June 9.

The authorities have detained the security guard and confiscated his weapon.

Ahmed, was recording the content for his vlog in the bustling Serena mobile market in Karachi on June 4, when he was fatally attacked, Pakistani channel Geo TV reported.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Ahmed was having a conversation with shopkeepers about the cricket match as part of the build-up for the India vs Pakistan match in New York that was scheduled on June 9. He then approached a security guard, identified as Gul Hassan, to include him in the video. However, the situation escalated abruptly as Hassan opened fire on Ahmed.

A CCTV footage, which has been since circulated on social media, shows the security guard approaching Ahmed before firing at him. Ahmed could be seen being struck in the shoulder, causing him to collapse on the ground as bystanders rush to his aid.
Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of rescue teams, took the injured Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Despite their efforts, Ahmed was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The authorities have detained the security guard and confiscated his weapon. In his statement to the police, Hassan claimed that Ahmed’s gestures while filming had provoked him, leading to the shooting. Police noted that Hassan, who hails from Waziristan, struggled with Urdu.
A first information report (FIR) has been lodged at Taimuria Police Station, based on a complaint from the victim’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed. The FIR names the security guard, the security company, and the mobile market administration, alleging negligence despite prior permission for the video shoot.
