Parineeti Chopra addresses ‘pregnancy and plastic surgery rumours’; says she lost work, avoided being seen in public

When director Imtiaz Ali offered Parineeti Chopra the role of Amarjot Kaur in Amar Singh Chamkila’s biopic, starring Diljit Dosanjh, little did she know that the film would be a turning point in her career. While the Netflix film opened to rave reviews, garnering praise for the actors’ performances, Parineeti’s journey to becoming Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife, was far from easy. During the film’s promotions, the actor candidly spoke about how the role demanded her to gain 15 kilos of weight. “Imtiaz sir told me to gain 15 kgs and said there would be no makeup on my face. I had to look my worst in Chamkila and I said, ‘I will do it,” she told Bollywood Hungama in a recent interview.

While her peers from the industry warned her against gaining weight for the role, stating that the transformation would put an “end to her career,” Parineeti said that she took inspiration from Vidya Balan. “Vidya Balan inspired me to take up the challenge because she did it for The Dirty Picture,” said Parineeti adding, “As I was shooting for Chamkila for over two years, I lost out on a lot of work. I looked my worst and there were pregnancy and plastic surgery rumours, too.”
