Chandigarh: To identify the warning signs of Parkinson’s disease , a neurological disorder that causes causes problems with movement, mental health, sleep, pain and other health issues, and highlight the importance of diet and timing of medicine to manage it effectively, the department of neurology at a private hospital in Mohali organised an awareness talk on Friday.Dr Sudesh Prabhakar, director, neurology, said, “Millet-based diet improves absorption of medicines used for Parkinson’s disease.”He said that deep brain stimulation and specialised diet-based therapies are also helpful. Deep-brain stimulation involves implanting electrodes inside the brain to produce electrical impulses. The surgery helps in improving motor complications in patients with Parkinson disease, he added.Dr Nishit Sawal, consultant, neurology, explained how absorption of L-dopa, the main drug for Parkinson’s, increases manifold if given via LCAS formulation. This is useful, especially in advanced stage when the effect of tablets decreases, he added.
