Physical activity crucial in managing Parkinson's Disease: Dr Arun Kumar

Dr. Arun Kumar, Senior Consultant - Neurology at Brahmanand Narayana Hospital, Tamolia, emphasized the importance of physical activity and exercise in managing Parkinson's disease. Dr. Kumar explained that Parkinson's disease affected nerve cells in the brain responsible for controlling activities, leading to issues like tremors and muscle stiffness. He mentioned that regular aerobic exercises could reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease according to some research findings. Dr. Kumar pointed out that individuals with a significant loss of dopamine-producing cells were prone to Parkinson's symptoms, affecting around 60,000 new cases annually. In addressing Parkinson's disease, Dr. Kumar highlighted the importance of managing symptoms and improving quality of life through medication and therapy.

Although typically diagnosed after the age of 55, the disease could also impact those aged 30-40 years, with men being more susceptible than women.
