The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued clear guidelines regarding the consumption of protein supplements, but they have no takers, at least in the state capital, Bhopal.Experts say that ignoring the guidelines and taking protein supplements without supervision of a doctor can be fatal for a person's health.ICMR in its guidelines regarding the consumption of protein supplements, has clearly emphasised the importance of consulting the doctor before starting any supplement regimen.Protein supplements have gained popularity among fitness enthusiasts and those seeking to build muscle mass or lose weight. However, it is crucial to understand that these supplements are not a replacement for a balanced diet and should be used judiciously.City based gym owner Akash said that members of his gym insisted he provide them with protein supplements. "I have been telling them to be careful while using it, but they are least bothered about it," said Paritosh Rai, owner of a gym in Arera Colony.Healthcare experts are concerned about the potential consequences of disregarding the ICMR's recommendations. They warn that consuming protein supplements without proper guidance and supervision can lead to serious health issues, and in some cases, even prove fatal.Overconsumption of protein can lead to various health problems, such as kidney damage, dehydration, and digestive issues.
