In preparation for the arrival, midway and departure of the Palkhi, traffic diversions have been implemented across the city.
As per the directives from the traffic department, major routes will be closed to vehicular traffic post-noon, and motorists are urged to utilize alternative routes.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi will culminate at the shrine of Shri Nivdungya Vithoba Mandir, while Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi will reach the Shri Palkhi Vithoba Mandir in Bhavani Peth.
Fergusson Road (Khandoba Baba Chowk to Veer Chaphekar Chowk) - Alternative routes: Karve Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Range Hill.
Laxmi Road (Belbag Chowk to Tilak Chowk) - Alternative routes: Shivaji Road, Hirabaug Tilak Road, Shastri Road.
The city of Pune is gearing up for the arrival of the Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj, scheduled to take place this Sunday, June 30. In preparation for the arrival, midway and departure of the Palkhi, traffic diversions have been implemented across the city.
As per the directives from the traffic department, major routes will be closed to vehicular traffic post-noon, and motorists are urged to utilize alternative routes. The Pune Traffic Department has advised commuters to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth passage for the Palkhi processions.
For the Palkhi procession of Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj, traffic diversions will be enforced along the following routes: Bopodi Chowk, Khadki Railway Station, Marai Gate Chowk, Kamal Nayan Bajaj Chowk, and the old Mumbai-Pune highway, among others.
Similarly, for the procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, traffic will be diverted from Kasba Peth to Vishrambaug Wada Chowk, Yerwada Mental Hospital to Alandi Road Chowk, Chandrama Chowk to Alandi Road, New Dr. Ambedkar Setu to Chandrama Chowk, Holkar Bridge to Sapras Chowk.
During this period, only essential routes will remain accessible while others will remain closed as per the requirement. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and follow the instructions of traffic police personnel. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Rohidas Pawar, has reiterated the importance of cooperation from all citizens to ensure the smooth conduct of the Palkhi processions.
After the arrival of the Palkhis, both processions will converge on the same route towards their final destinations. Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi will culminate at the shrine of Shri Nivdungya Vithoba Mandir, while Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi will reach the Shri Palkhi Vithoba Mandir in Bhavani Peth.
The traffic diversions will be lifted once the Palkhis have passed through, and normal traffic flow will resume gradually. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures will be taken to minimise inconvenience to the public during this period.
Closure Details:
1. Ganeshkhind Road (Range Hill Chowk to Sancheti Hospital) - Alternate routes include Range Hill to Khadki Police Station, Poultry Chowk, Old Mumbai Pune Highway, and Senapati Bapat Road.
2. Fergusson Road (Khandoba Baba Chowk to Veer Chaphekar Chowk) - Alternative routes: Karve Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Range Hill.
3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Road (Gadgil Putala to S. G. Barve Chowk) - Alternative routes: Kumbhar Ves, Mahaldaka Chowk, Aarti Chowk, Jehangir Hospital, Bund Garden Road.
4. Tilak Chowk to Veer Chaphekar Chowk - Alternative routes: Shastri Road, Mhatre Pool.
5. Laxmi Road (Belbag Chowk to Tilak Chowk) - Alternative routes: Shivaji Road, Hirabaug Tilak Road, Shastri Road.
6. Shastri Road to Senadatta Police Chowk to Khandoba Baba Chowk Road Closure.
Heavy vehicles are also strictly prohibited from using these roads. Similarly, traffic will be diverted towards the Solapur route and diverted towards the Navi Mumbai route from Narayanpur and Kapoor Holm. On June 30, during the arrival of the Palkhi and on July 2, during the departure of the Palkhi, all types of traffic will be closed on the entire Palkhi Road. Following the arrival of the Palkhi, necessary measures will be taken to open up the traffic.
