Punjab woman, 55, paraded half-naked by son's in-laws, 3 arrested

A 55-year-old woman was assaulted and paraded semi-naked by her son’s in-laws in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. A video of the incident, showing the woman in a semi-naked state, has gone viral on social media. Speaking to India Today, the 55-year-old said that her son had registered his marriage with a woman last month. A 55-year-old woman was assaulted and paraded semi-naked by her son’s in-laws in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. Her son had eloped with a woman and married her against her family’s wishes. Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A video of the incident, showing the woman in a semi-naked state, has gone viral on social media.

Speaking to India Today, the 55-year-old said that her son had registered his marriage with a woman last month. She said that her daughter-in-law’s family was upset over the marriage and five of them came to her place, beat her up and tore her clothes. They made a video of her in the semi-naked state and shared it on social media.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Tarn Taran) Ashwini Kapoor said that police have formed teams to nab all the accused involved in the incident. Of the five accused, three people have been arrested while efforts are underway to trace the other two.

Additionally, actions are being taken to remove the circulated video from social media platforms.

The police registered under the Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354D (stalking), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 149 (unlawful assembly).
