'Queen of Tears' actor Park Sung-hoon breaks silence on his 'chaebol' background rumours; recalls his tough growing up days

Park Sung-hoon, gaining popularity from ‘Queen of Tears’, featured on episode 242 of tvN's ‘ You Quiz on the Block ’, airing on May 1st. During the show, Park Sung-hoon mentioned that he graduated from Gwacheon Foreign Language High School , prompting the MCs to praise his academic achievements. I remember his words every time I suffer a hard time”.Addressing buzz about his chaebol background, Park Sung Hoon revealed, "The chaebol theory is really nonsense. When I was in high school, (my family) became extremely poor, and when my friends were buying hamburgers, I would squat on the stairs alone and wait for them (because I had no money)." He further added, "I lived in the semi-basement room shown in the movie ‘Parasite’ for about 7 years.

I would play around with my close friends but I would never raise my hands to announce something. Before enlisting, I still slept with the lights on because I was afraid of ghosts.”He further added, "Knowing that I have such personalities, my parents were like, ‘You want to act? That’s good. If you want to do anything, that’s good. Because you normally don’t have any goal. It’s a good thing that there’s finally something you want to do”.Park Sung-hoon also shared how his father had reacted to his career choice and added, "My father worked in the military then he became a bank clerk. By the time I started acting, he was already old. He went to an alumni meeting and found out that all of his former classmates were either managers or executives. My family had a hard time financially. Once, he came home drunk and said, “I wish you could focus on only one thing. If you like acting, focus on that only’.
