MUMBAI: Due to the strengthening of westerly winds , an increase in rainfall activity is expected over parts of Maharashtra during the next five days, with the weather department issuing an orange alert for Thane and Raigad districts for Tuesday and Wednesday.Mumbaikars can expect thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places on Sunday. The city remained overcast and humid on Saturday. Colaba recorded a rainfall of 2 mm till 8.30 am on Saturday while Santacruz recorded 9 mm during the same period.Thane recorded 42mm rainfall till Saturday morning. Across the state, a red alert of extremely high rainfall has been issued for Sindhudurg. Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts will have been put on orange alert next week beginning Tuesday. Weather officials said that Thane can get heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy (115.6-204.4 mm) rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Raigad on the other hand will witness heavy to very heavy rains beginning Monday and extending till Wednesday. While a yellow alert (watch) has been issued for Mumbai, isolated places will receive heavy rainfall from Monday to Wednesday.
