Barcelona’s offer that Guiu rejected

Now, Mundo Deportivo has come forward with a report that reveals the contract offer that Barcelona had tabled for Marc Guiu which he ended up rejecting.

As per the update, the Blaugrana put forth a contract proposal with a salary worth €2 million per year, although the duration of the offer has not been mentioned.

While Chelsea are understood to have put forth a much bigger pay packet, another major clincher in their favour was that the Blues offered him a guaranteed role in the first-team setup.

At Barcelona, though, the situation was a bit different as the club were not in a position to guarantee him a first-team spot right away.

However, it was pointed to him that Robert Lewandowski would soon be turning 36 and Vitor Roque could leave on loan due to Fair Play reasons.

As such, Guiu was told that if he played 50% of the games for Barça Atletic, he would earn a contract with the first team.

The player’s agents, knowing that there were powerful offers such as the one from Chelsea, pushed hard in terms of what they were asking for, on the assumption that at Stamford Bridge they would give him a leading role, something that Barça were not sure about.

In any case, the final decision was Guiu’s own and once he agreed terms with Chelsea, they paid his release clause amount last Friday.
