The upcoming IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals on Sunday (April 7) will be celebrated as ESA Day, a very special occasion for the MI #OneFamily.

Speaking of special, our Class of 2024 youngster, Naman Dhir, talked to the media ahead of the game, offering insights into his game, his ambitions, and getting our campaign going.

“Every cricketer dreams of playing in the IPL. And I am grateful to the Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams, for giving me this opportunity. The team atmosphere is excellent, and I am enjoying it,” Naman said when asked about his initial impressions of joining MI and being one of the select few to earn the chance to switch from being a fan watching IPL on TV to taking the field as a player.

Having played just four T20s in his career, it might have come as a surprise to many when MI handed Naman a debut in the team’s very first game of the season. The batting all-rounder threw some light on the moment when he learned about his impending first hurrah into IPL cricket.

“A day before the game (vs Gujarat), Hardik bhai came up to me and said you will be playing. Also, I think I got a place in the team since I performed well in the practice matches.”

In the initial games we saw Naman play, he batted up the order. Has he received any tips from the senior players?

“Speaking of batting advice, the seniors have told me to play my own game. I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. They have told me I should be free to go out and express myself without feeling pressured,” he added.

MI has endured a tough start to IPL 2024, so how is the dressing room feeling? Naman Dhir had a straightforward and optimistic response.

“The atmosphere is still good, and the team bond is strong. There are still 11 games to go; hopefully, we will qualify for the next stage.

“I haven’t set any goals. I am just enjoying the process of playing freely and trying to play cricket, which helps the team win games.”

That's right. With his confidence and the team's determination, along with the force of thousands of young kids behind us, it promises to be a cracking Sunday afternoon!
