New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a big claim as he accused the Congress Party of dividing the budget based on religion. PM Modi accused the Manmohan Singh government of wanting to spend 15% of the budget on Muslims but opting out of it following the opposition by the BJP.

"Congress at that time wanted that fifteen per cent of the entire budget of the country be spent only on Muslims (Congress us samay chahti thi ki desh ke saare Budget ka pandrah pratishat sirf Musalmano par kharch ho)," Modi said, highlighting that the Manmohan Singh-led government had to abandon the plan due to staunch opposition from him in his capacity as Gujarat's chief minister and the BJP.

"But now they are keen on implementing all these old agendas," he stated during a rally at Pimpalgaon Baswant.

"If Congress is elected, it will create two budgets based on religion. I will not allow the Budget to be divided into a ' Hindu budget ' and ' Muslim budget ,' and I will not permit quotas based on religion," he affirmed in Kalyan at another rally.

PM Modi pointed out that his actions were merely aimed at exposing Congress's divisive tactics rather than indulging in polarising rhetoric himself.

"I am being accused by their (Congress) ecosystem of raising Hindu-Muslim issues, but it is Congress that is being divisive," he asserted.

"Should I not reveal their intentions? Should I worry about my image and stay silent? I will not let my country be divided in such a manner. Are we not all Indians?" he questioned.

"They had to carve a nation based on religion, and so they did. Congress was helpless and complied. Now they talk about 'Hindu budget' and 'Muslim budget.' Can a country have separate budgets for Hindus and Muslims?" Modi pondered.

Modi pointed out that Congress had given approval to the allocation of funds based on religion and had even urged state governments to allocate fifteen per cent of their budget exclusively to members of a minority community.

"You can imagine how dangerous the idea of dividing the budget in this manner is. And you know, for Congress, there is only one minority — their beloved vote bank," Modi remarked.
