It would be very, very counterproductive if I went to the kitchen. I will start asking ‘Yeh nahi hai, woh kaha hai. Somebody would resign. It’s much better if I don’t go to the kitchen.’”

Later, Sharmila said, Tiger Pataudi gave in and started cooking on his own. It turned out to be a smart move because he starting making delicious dishes, growing more confident in the kitchen. “At the end he gave up and started cooking himself. That was so clever of me, he started making such wonderful things. It made him so confident. He started calling people for recipes. He would make a new dish, watch YouTube, and ask friends for recipes. Once I was in London, someone called and said ‘he gave us this fantastic meal.’ He was doing very well without me going to the kitchen,” she recalled.
