Tharoor, the incumbent Thiruvananthapuram MP, shared the video of Rajeev Chandrasekhar's challenge and wrote on X, "Let us debate politics and development".

"Yes, I welcome a debate. But the people of Thiruvananthapuram are aware of who has been evading a debate till now. Let us debate politics and development," Tharoor said.

"Let us debate price hike, unemployment, corruption, communalism and the BJP's 10 years of propagating politics of hatred. Let us also discuss about the development of Thiruvananthapuram and the visible progress we have made in last 15 years," the Congress leader said.

The Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency has been witnessing a high-voltage poll campaign as both parties consider it a prestige battle, with the latest development being both leaders filing complaints against each other with the Election Commission.

Chandrasekhar's complaint alleges that the United Democratic Front (UDF) Candidate Shashi Tharoor made a statement suggesting that he gave cash for votes. Tharoor's team denied the allegation, stating that he never made such a statement.

Meanwhile, the Congress-led UDF filed a complaint against the NDA candidate Chandrasekhar, alleging that he filed a false affidavit along with the nomination papers.

Apart from Chandrasekar and Tharoor, CPI veteran Pannyan Raveendran is also contesting from the seat as the Left-front candidate.

Kerala is set to vote to elect its 20 Lok Sabha MPs in a single phase on April 26.
