The Indians went down 21-23, 11-21 at the Singapore Open Super 750 women’s doubles semifinal on Saturday against world No 4 Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida.
Treesa-Gayatri, ranked 30 in the world, put up a fantastic fight in the opening game as they fought back from a slow start to push the Japanese all the way to extra points.
But in the second game, it was a straight-forward deal for Shida and Matsuyama, as they opened up a huge lead in the first half and coasted through in the end.
