A similar kind of scenario emerged for Virat also as the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal threatened to take over his place. But Virat’s brilliant IPL form ensured he remained the preferred choice in the opening slot as both Gill and Jaiswal endured poor runs in IPL 2024.

A selector told the Indian Express, “With these three important pieces of the jigsaw in place, the picture was clear. Now we needed to put a plan in place.”

The 2024 T20 World Cup title is Virat’s first as a player while Rohit now has two T20 World Cup titles in his kitty.
