"This victory is yours. This is the victory of your love. This victory is of Vidisha," tweeted Chouhan who had been an MP from Vidisha from 1991 to 2004.

"This election was yours and you fought it with great enthusiasm. The victory figures reflect your immense blessings and unwavering faith. The people of the country have expressed their trust in the government led by Prime Minister @narendramodi ji for the third consecutive time. The people of Madhya Pradesh have also presented a garland of 29 lotus flowers to the honourable Prime Minister. I pay my heartfelt tribute to this love of the people," he said.

Chouhan, popularly called 'mamaji' (uncle) by his supporters, served as the Chief Minister from 2005 till December last year. His welfare schemes, particularly the Laadli Laxmi Yojana, have been instrumental in the BJP's victories in 2008, 2013 and 2023.

The Laadli Laxmi Yojana provides monetary benefits to eligible girl children to ensure they get a good education and change the perspective of society towards the birth of the girl's child.

Chouhan is also an MLA from Budhni, a seat which he has been representing since 2006. He was replaced by Mohan Yadav after the BJP registered a thumping victory in last year's assembly polls, when it won 163 of the total 230 seats.
