US: Three-Indian origin killed in car accident, 2 injured

NEW DELHI: At least three Indian-origin students were killed and two others injured in a car accident in Alpharetta , Georgia.The accident occurred last week, May 14, when a car carrying five individuals was driving along Westside Parkway, located north of Maxwell Road, Fox5 Atlanta reported.Two teenagers lost their lives in the incident on the same day. Sharma (18) died on May 15 at the hospital where she was admitted.The driver was identified as Rithwak Somepalli, an 18-year-old student at Georgia State University. Mohammed Liyakath, an 18-year-old senior at Alpharetta High School, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They hoped that cherished memories would provide solace and resilience to all affected by the loss, according to Fox5 Atlanta. Later, a third teenager succumbed to injuries on the next day, as reported by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.The teenagers were identified as 18-year-old Aryan Joshi, a senior at Alpharetta High School, 18-year-old Sriya Avasarala, a freshman at the University of Georgia and Anvi Sharma, freshman at the University of Georgia. Sharma (18) died on May 15 at the hospital where she was admitted.The driver was identified as Rithwak Somepalli, an 18-year-old student at Georgia State University. Mohammed Liyakath, an 18-year-old senior at Alpharetta High School, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.While investigators suspect that speed may have played a role in the crash, the matter remains under investigation.Upon hearing the devastating news, Anisha Hadimani, one of Joshi's friends, expressed disbelief and deep sorrow. "I never would’ve thought... it’s a lot," she said, struggling to hold back tears."He was genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life," she said. Hadimani took several classes with Joshi. She says he was caring and selfless."If you were having a bad day, he would come to you and ask, ‘What’s going on? We can talk about it,’" she recalled.Hadimani, who is also a freshman at UGA, described Avasarala as a remarkable young woman, reflecting on the fragility of life. "It really puts things into perspective. This can just happen anywhere at any time to anyone," she lamented.The University of Georgia issued a statement expressing condolences for the lives lost in the tragic accident, extending support to their families and loved ones during this challenging time.
