A US national was deceived into buying counterfeit jewellery worth Rs 300 for Rs 6 crore from a shop in Rajasthan’s Jaipur.
Cherish later filed an FIR against the shop owners at the Manak Chowk police station.
While the shop owner and his son are currently on the run, the individual who issued the fake certificate for the jewellery has been arrested.
The preliminary probe by the police revealed that the shop owners recently purchased an apartment worth Rs 3 crore.
“Investigations have revealed that the accused sold silver jewellery with gold polish, worth Rs 300, to the foreigner for Rs 6 crore and provided her with a fake certificate of authenticity.
A US national was deceived into buying counterfeit jewellery worth Rs 300 for Rs 6 crore from a shop in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. An investigation into the matter was launched after the intervention of the US Embassy.
Cherish, a US resident bought a piece of jewellery from Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Manak Chowk police station. The jewellery cost her Rs 6 crore.
However, when she displayed the jewellery at an exhibition in the US in April, it was discovered to be fake following which Cherish confronted the sellers.
Upon returning to Jaipur to confront the shop owners – Rajendra Soni and his son Gaurav – who sold her the fake jewellery, ignored her complaints and dismissed the allegations.
Cherish later filed an FIR against the shop owners at the Manak Chowk police station. In retaliation, the accused filed a false case against her.
Distressed by the developments, Cherish sought help from the US Embassy and with their involvement, Jaipur Police began investigating and found that the jewellery was indeed fake.
While the shop owner and his son are currently on the run, the individual who issued the fake certificate for the jewellery has been arrested. A special team of Jaipur police has been formed to apprehend the accused.

Nand Kishore, who issued the fake certificate, has been arrested, and a search is ongoing for the absconding father and son,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police North Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said.
