Virat Kohli Likely to Reach New York in Time for the T20 World Cup Warm-up vs Bangladesh

Virat Kohli has yet to take the flight to New York for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The star India batter will likely link up with the squad before the only warm-up fixture, vs Bangladesh on June 1. It is understood that he will fly towards the end of the month.

“He will reach New York before the warm-up vs Bangladesh on June 1. Whether he plays or not in the warm-up will be management’s call – whether they feel there is enough gap between him landing and the warm-up fixture,” says a source close to developments.

The second batch of players left this morning and Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be joining the squad soon. Both Sanju and Avesh shared the update on their respective Instagram stories.

Meanwhile, the first batch of players, led by captain Rohit Sharma, arrived in New York on Sunday and will soon begin preparations for the multi-nation event. Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and travelling reserves Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed reached yesterday.

Rishabh Pant, making a comeback to the Indian team after a long gap due to the horrific road accident, decided to beat the jet lag by having a gym session under the watch of Strength and Conditioning coach Soham Desai.

The Indian cricket team will stay at a five-star hotel not very far away from the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. The venue will host the side’s warm-up fixture and three more matches—vs. Ireland, Pakistan, and USA—before they culminate the group stage vs. Canada in Florida. All the Super Eight fixtures, semi-finals, and finals will be played in the West Indies.
