Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has achieved the world’s first successful drone delivery on Mount Everest, reported ABC News.
This marks a significant leap forward in logistics and safety for mountaineering expeditions on the world’s tallest peak.
The delivery, conducted at the daunting altitude of over 5,000 metres, saw a DJI FlyCart 30 drone transport three oxygen cylinders and additional supplies from Everest’s Base Camp to Camp 1.
In the video shared by the official Instagram handle of ABC News, the same FlyCart 30 drone can be seen deployed in tackling the issue of waste management on Everest.
Prior to the mission, DJI subjected its FlyCart 30 drone to rigorous testing to ensure its resilience in the extreme conditions prevalent on Everest, mentioned ABC News.

The drone efficiently transported trash from Camp 1, situated at an altitude of 5,364 metres, back down to Base Camp. Prior to the mission, DJI subjected its FlyCart 30 drone to rigorous testing to ensure its resilience in the extreme conditions prevalent on Everest, mentioned ABC News. From wind resistance to low-temperature endurance and weight capacity, every aspect was evaluated to guarantee the success of the delivery.

The report also stated this is about enhancing safety and alleviating the burdens faced by sherpas, as these courageous individuals often put their lives at risk navigating treacherous terrains.
On seeing the video, which already raked 3,000 views, one Instagram user said, “Maybe now they could use it and clean up all the garbage that’s up there.” Another user added, “Incredible utility of drones on Mount Everest.” A third user expressed, “feel like we should be way past this at this point in our civilization, but here we are still making big deals over taco vendors.” Another user replied, “Cool now they can order a pizza on Uber eats.” And a fifth user wrote, “Amazing game changer revolution.”
In a statement following the successful mission, Christina Zhang, DJI’s senior corporate strategy director shared with ABC News, “The ability to safely transport equipment, supplies, and waste by drone has the potential to revolutionize Everest mountaineering logistics, facilitate trash cleanup efforts, and improve safety for all involved.”
