In a nerve wracking video, a major aerial incident which was about to take place above Syracuse Hancock International Airport in New York was averted and two planes which were aligned to almost collide narrowly escaped.
The harrowing moment was captured in the dash camera of the North Syracuse Police Department’s patrol car on July 8.
The two planes were from major commercial aircraft companies, namely PSA Airlines 5511 (regional branch of American Airlines) and Endeavor Air 5421 (Delta Connection).

Though experts have said that the flights weren’t on the path to a collision, the audio of Air Traffic Control reportedly indicated otherwise.

The harrowing moment was captured in the dash camera of the North Syracuse Police Department’s patrol car on July 8. As per CNN, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation in the incident but hasn’t classified it as a “near collision”.
The two planes were from major commercial aircraft companies, namely PSA Airlines 5511 (regional branch of American Airlines) and Endeavor Air 5421 (Delta Connection).

According to the statement by an official of the FAA, the incident took place at around 11:50 am on July 8 when “an air traffic controller instructed PSA Airlines 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway.”
As per the initial data from the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the PSA flight which was coming in from Washington and the Endeavor Air flight which was enroute to New York, came in at approximately 700-1000 feet of distance within each other vertically.

According to CBS News, the PSA Airlines 5511 had 75 passengers with four crew members while Endeavor Air 5421 had 76 passengers with four crew members, which included two pilots and two flight attendants. And no one was hurt in the incident.
Though experts have said that the flights weren’t on the path to a collision, the audio of Air Traffic Control reportedly indicated otherwise.
As per CBS News, the traffic control initially gave a go ahead to PSA 5511 for landing and it also gave Endeavor Air 5421 a green light for a take off from the same runway 28.
