Chennai Super Kings' promising pacer Matheesha Pathirana sustained his purple patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, as he bowled an impressive spell in his side's eighth group-stage encounter against Lucknow Super Kings.

After castling Devdutt Padikkal with a ripper, Pathirana came back to dismiss Nicholas Pooran at a crucial juncture of the match.

The incident occurred during the 17th over of LSG's innings when Pooran had already formed a scintillating stand for the fourth wicket.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's decision to bring Pathirana back into the attack worked wonders for the hosts, with the Lankan spearhead getting rid of Pooran.

After conceding a single run off his first two deliveries, Pathirana bowled it slightly wide of Pooran's reach. The explosive southpaw, in a bid to break the shackles, played a lofted shot only to mistime it and get caught by Shardul Thakur.

Despite Pooran's departure, Stoinis kept fighting at one end, bringing up a scintillating ton to keep the Super Giants alive in the contest. Promoted to number three after De Kock's early dismissal, Stoinis hammered 13 fours and 6 sixes for his 63-ball 124*.

His valiant effort didn't go in vain as LSG chased the target with six wickets and three balls to spare.
