Going into the final over, He was facing up on 58 having reached his half-century off 34 balls after Tristan Stubbs‘ boundary onslaught off Sai Kishore in the 19th over had pushed Delhi’s total up into the 190s in the previous over.
Mohit bowled a slower ball first up, which Pant lofted through point but Sai Kishore fielded in the deep to keep the batters to two. The next ball was called a wide, leaving Mohit to bowl it again. The re-bowl was powered to long-on by Pant, with the fielder waiting to take the catch on the boundary. However, in a moment of luck for Delhi, the ball went straight through Shahrukh Khan’s hands and over the rope for six.
Dealt a wide yorker for the next ball, Pant lost his balance trying to hit through the off side, but still managed to maneuver the ball to the boundary for four. The shot took Delhi past 200.
The last three balls of the innings saw Pant cut loose. Mohit sent down a bouncer for the fourth ball of the over, to which Pant swivelled to pull the ball over fine leg. A full toss from the next ball went for another six, the biggest of the lot, which went high into the sky and over the long-on boundary. To finish the innings, Pant sent a length ball over the deep square leg boundary, just clearing the rope.
