In the 41st match of the Indian Premier League at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, the Delhi Capitals are facing the Gujarat Titans. The toss was won by Shubman Gill, who invited the home team to bat first.

The Capitals were off to a great start, courtesy Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, Fraser-McGurk's dismissal turned the tides for Delhi as Shaw followed him back to the pavilion, but not before a controversial umpire's call.

Prithvi Shaw's Controversial Dismissal

Sandeep Warrier was bowling the fourth over of the innings. On the second delivery of the over, Warrier bowled a shorter delivery and forced Shaw to play a pull shot. Shaw mistimed it and Noor Ahmad caught the ball at deep square leg, as the fielder dived in front of him and gathered the ball inches above the ground.

The on-field umpire sent the decision upstairs, and after many deliberations, the third umpire decided that the catch was taken safely and adjudged Shaw out.

It looked like a 50-50 decision. Former Kiwi pacer Mitchell McClenaghan took to Twitter to criticise the call. He stated that it was a 'shocking call' indicating that the umpiring standard has gone down.

The umpiring quality of IPL has recently been discussed due to some controversial decisions. This one adds to that list.

Mitchell McClenaghan has played 56 matches in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. In these games he has picked 71 wickets with an economy of 8.49. His average and strike rate during his time is 25.39 and 17.94, respectively.
