Water Level In Mumbai Lakes At 20.48% On July 9; Check Latest Weather Forecast

As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and surrounding districts on Monday, the useful water stock in reservoirs supplying water to the metropolis has increased to 20.48% on Tuesday. Seven reservoirs, namely Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi, supply 385 crore litres of potable water to the megapolis. To supply water to the entire Mumbai metropolitan city, the total useful water stock required is 14,47,363 million litres. As per the latest BMC data, the water level in Tansa is at 43.16%. The useful water stock in Middle Vaitarna is at 20.37% while Tulsi Lake is at 54.42% of its full capacity.

As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and surrounding districts on Monday, the useful water stock in reservoirs supplying water to the metropolis has increased to 20.48% on Tuesday. On this day in 2023, it was 23.11% and 28.89% in 2022.

The collective water stock in the seven reservoirs is now at 2,96,348 million litres till 6:00 am on July 9, according to the data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Seven reservoirs, namely Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi, supply 385 crore litres of potable water to the megapolis. To supply water to the entire Mumbai metropolitan city, the total useful water stock required is 14,47,363 million litres.

As per the latest BMC data, the water level in Tansa is at 43.16%. Modak Sagar is at 37.72%. The useful water stock in Middle Vaitarna is at 20.37% while Tulsi Lake is at 54.42% of its full capacity. Vihar Lake has a present stock of 38.75%.

Mumbai's Powai Lake also began overflowing on Monday. The lake, which has a storage capacity of 545 crore litres, started overflowing at 4.45 am. However, the water from the lake is not potable and is used only for industrial purposes. Located around 27 kilometres from the BMC headquarters, Powai Lake was built in 1890 for Rs 12.59 lakh.
