Amid a row over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, Sanjeev Mukhiya's name has come to the forefront as he is believed to be the mastermind behind the medical entrance exam National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) paper leak.
A resident of Nalanda district in Bihar, Mukhiya, whose real name is Sanjeev Singh, has been involved in paper leak scandals even in the past. He had allegedly accommodated about 25 candidates at a boys hostel a day before the NEET examination this year and provided them with leaked question paper and answer sheets, according to an India Today report.

Sanjeev Mukhiya's real name is Sanjeev Singh and his involvement in exam fraud dates back to nearly two decades. Previously employed as a technical assistant at Nalanda College's Noorsarai branch, Sanjeev started being addressed as 'mukhiya' after his wife Mamta Devi was elected the 'mukhiya' or chief of the Bhuthakhar Panchayat, according to a report by News18.
Devi also contested the 2020 Bihar elections from Harnaut seat. Fighting on a Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJNSP) ticket, she emerged as the first runner-up.
“It was Sanjeev who arranged the question paper and handed it over to one ‘Rocky’ who is still at large,” a police source told News18. The source further added that this is not first time Sanjeev’s name has cropped up in a paper leak investigation and pointed that his name has come up in paper leak cases of many competitive exams and he has also faced jail.

The father-son duo are allegedly part of ‘Mukhiya Solver Gang’ involved in exam related frauds.
The NEET-UG examination was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared in it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14 but were announced on June 4, with the NTA saying the evaluation of the answer sheets got completed earlier.
As many as 67 students scored a perfect 720, unprecedented in the NTA's history, with six from a centre in Haryana's Faridabad figuring in the list, raising suspicions about irregularities. It has been alleged that grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank.
