Who is Sujata Saunik, Maharashtra's first woman chief secretary

NEW DELHI: IAS officer Sujata Saunik on Sunday took charge of chief secretary of Maharashtra becoming the first woman in the state's 64-year-old history to hold the position.Saunik is set to serve a one-year term before retiring in June next year. She succeeded Nitin Kareer who retired on Sunday.She is an IAS officer from 1987 batch.She brings over thirty years of expertise in public policy and governance across healthcare, finance, education, disaster management, and peacekeeping.Her experience spans roles in the Indian Administrative Service and the United Nations, encompassing district, state, federal, and international assignments.Prior to becoming the chief secretary, Saunik, whose husband Manoj Saunik is also a former state chief secretary, served as the additional chief secretary in the state's home department.
