Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his disapproval over England & Wales Cricket Board’s decision of pulling out English players from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs.

Players like Phil Salt, Jos Buttler and Will Jacks returned to England prior to IPL 2024 playoffs in order to prioritize national duties, considering England’s four-match T20I home series against Pakistan coincided with the final week of India’s premier T20 tournament.

Vaughan stated that instead of returning back to England for a series against Pakistan, the English players should have stayed in India for the IPL 2024 playoffs as he believes the high-stakes nature of IPL knockout matches would have held them in better stead prior to next week’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

As it turned out, Michael Vaughan’s calculated assessment seems to have irked a particular Pakistan journalist, who perceived the Englishman’s IPL-prioritization as an insult to the ‘Men in Green’ bowlers.

Michael Vaughan shuts down Pakistan journalist

Michael Vaughan’s comments on a podcast seemingly enraged a Pakistani journalist, who perceived the ex-England captain’s opinion as a sign of disrespect to Babar Azam’s team.

The journalist in question took to X and asked Vaughan if he would apologize to Pakistan fans if the ‘Men in Green’ won the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies.

The former English captain, with his usual flair and wittiness, simply dropped a one-word response stating: ‘No’.

The England cricket team, emboldened with the returns of Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow and several other IPL 2024 players; defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the second T20I of their four-match series.

The two teams will now travel to Cardiff for the penultimate match of the series before setting base in USA for the T20 World Cup 2024.
