While the bright red, juicy strawberries often take center stage on our plates, we may be missing out on a nutritional treasure trove by discarding their leafy greens.

In a post shared on Instagram, content creator and healthcare professional Dr Karan Rajan says, “If you are eating strawberries, eat the leaves as well. A strawberry top with the leaves is known as a calyx and has a nutritional value on par with the berry itself.”

The leaves are packed with polyphenols which are antioxidants, he states, and they contain almost as much vitamin C as the berry. Additionally, they are loaded with other nutrients that are beneficial for our body.

Consultant dietician and certified diabetes educator Kanikka Malhotra says, “Consuming strawberry leaves alongside the fruit offers a double dose of goodness!”
