No Respite For Kohli Despite Top Run Despite a stellar run in the IPL 2024, the concerns regarding Virat Kohli's strike rate refuse to die down. The critics have been severe against Kohli, often mocking him for his low strike rate. Kohli, after scoring a 67-ball hundred against RR, the joint slowest century in IPL history, defended his slow knocks, saying that he cannot premeditate his innings.
"I am not coming in with any premeditation. I knew I couldn't get over-aggressive, just that I had to keep the bowlers guessing. It's just experience and maturity of playing the conditions," Kohli had said.
Will Kohli Get Selected For T20 World Cup?
Ahead of the IPL 2024, reports emerged that Virat will have to do exceedingly well in the T20 extravaganza to make a case for T20 World Cup selection. The reports stated that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is not happy with Virat Kohli's approach toward T20 cricket and feel that someone with better T20I abilities should board the flight to the USA and West Indies.
Kohli has shown great form in the IPL 2024 but he hasn't been able to break free in terms of his scoring rate. One of the main reasons for Kohli's low strike rate is the lack of runs from Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Faf du Plessis. The overseas trio has failed miserably in the tournament, leaving Kohli to carry the team's batting alone.
