Launched back in 2022, Maruti Grand Vitara, or the rebadged Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, were introduced with strong hybrid technology. Of course, the hybrid technology has been developed by Toyota. The hybrid powertrain comes paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine of Maruti. This engine produces 91bhp & 122Nm of torque, mated to e-CVT gearbox. Whereas it gets an electric motor which churns 79bhp and 141Nm of torque. The motor does its job at lower speeds which helps to drink less or no fuel in city traffic. That said, the claimed mileage for the Maruti Grand Vitara or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is 27.97kmpl. Talking about the pricing, the Grand Vitara Hybrid starts from Rs 21.51 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Whereas the Urban Cruiser Hybrid starts from Rs 19.60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), becoming the cheapest SUV in India with hybrid.

Maruti Brezza CNG

Next, we have the popular Maruti Brezza SUV. For anyone who wants a fuel efficient SUV from Maruti at an affordable price, the Brezza CNG becomes the perfect choice. It comes with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Grand Vitara but produces slightly less power with CNG. With CNG, this unit produces 87bhp and 121Nm of torque, mated with a manual gearbox only. Talking about the mileage, the Brezza CNG gets a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.51 km/kg. Also, it comes at a rather affordable price as the Brezza CNG starts from Rs 10.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

SUVs With Highest Mileage – Mahindra XUV 3XO

Apart from the hybrids and the CNGs, diesel SUVs are also popular to deliver impressive fuel economy. That said, the recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO is said to be the best choice to buy for better mileage. The SUV has a powerful 1.2-litre TGDi in the line-up but its 1.5-litre diesel unit is equally refined with decent performance. This engine produces 115bhp and 300Nm of peak torque, mated to both manual and AMT transmission options. That said, this engine still delivers a rather impressive – 20.6kmpl of claimed mileage. The diesel manual XUV 3XO starts from Rs 11.92 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Hyundai Creta

Finally, we have the popular Hyundai Creta which also comes with a plethora of engine options. It has the segment-best 1.5-litre TGDi engine which produces 158bhp of power. On the other hand, the SUV also comes with a fuel efficient, 1.5-litre diesel engine. It is one of the refined diesel engines on sale today which produces 113bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. You also have multiple transmission options but with manual this engine gets a claimed mileage of 21.81kmpl. That said, if you are planning to buy one, the Hyundai Creta diesel with manual transmission starts from Rs 15.18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
