The 4 upcoming Renault and Nissan SUVs (two five-seaters and two seven-seaters) are expected to be powered by 1.0L and 1.3L turbo petrol engines

Renault and Nissan revealed their intentions to introduce new vehicles in the Indian market a while ago. Among them is the all-new Duster, along with its Nissan counterpart. Following these midsize SUVs, they plan to introduce seven-seater iterations of these models. The five-seater SUVs are slated for launch next year, with their three-row counterparts expected to arrive in 2026.

As per reports, both SUVs will feature two turbocharged petrol engines as no diesel powertrain looks to be in the vicinity. The Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite are set to continue with the 1.0L three-cylinder HR10 petrol engine. However, improvements in performance are expected to align them better with competitors in the segment as well.

The larger 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine, known as the HR13, has already made its mark in India. Initially introduced in the Nissan Kicks, it also powered the previous generation Renault Duster. Generating 156 hp, this powerplant is also featured in the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan. Upon arrival, it may be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

A 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine for both the new-generation Duster and its Nissan counterpart could be considered especially for the low- and mid-spec variants. Whether a hybrid option will be available or not remains uncertain but it could give the Renault-Nissan alliance a distinctive advantage over most of its rivals in the midsize segment.

The upcoming Duster and its Nissan counterpart have already been teased as they adhere to the latest global design trends. Both models will ride on the extensively localized CMF-B platform, a familiar architecture in various international markets. This platform choice is expected to enable competitive pricing for both vehicles.

Renault made its mark in India with the Duster, and now the nameplate is making a comeback based on the latest global version. It remains to be seen whether the new generation Duster’s Nissan counterpart will adopt the Terrano name or not. Both models will face stiff competition in the midsize SUV segment and they will be packed with features and technologies.
