The cheapest 7-seater MPV in India, the Renault Triber. This model is offered with one petrol engine borrowed from the smaller, Renault Kwid. The 1.0-litre petrol unit produces 71 bhp and 96 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Claimed fuel economy for the model ranges between 18.30 kmpl and 20 kmpl for the AMT and manual variants respectively.

Maruti Ertiga: Up to 26.11 km/kg

The most popular car on this list is the Maruti Ertiga. Its 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine produces 102 bhp and 137 Nm of peak torque. This unit comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox and returns 20.51 kmpl and 20.30 kmpl respectively.

Additionally, the S-CNG variants of the Maruti Ertiga utilise the same 1.5-litre engine but produce a lower 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque. Kia Carens: Up to 21.3 kmpl

The next car on the list is a close rival to the Maruti Ertiga. The Kia Carens is one of the most versatile budget 7-seaters currently on sale in India. The MPV comes with three engines and four gearbox combinations. These include the 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre T-GDi turbo petrol units mated to either a 6-speed manual, iMT, AT or 7-speed DCT gearbox. Power output on the model ranges from 113 bhp to 158 bhp.

Claimed mileage on the model ranges from 15.7 kmpl and extends up to 21.3 kmpl. The most efficient variant on the model is the diesel manual, which is priced at Rs 15.31 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Pricing for the Kia Carens starts from Rs 12.54 lakh and extends to Rs 23.68 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Citroen C3 Aircross: Up to 18.50 kmpl

Citroen’s latest launch in the Indian market is the Citroen C3 Aircross. Measuring 4.3 meters in length, this Creta rivalling SUV is offered in a 5+2 configuration. Powering the C3 Aircross is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 109 bhp and 190 Nm. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT. This is the only automatic car in Citroen’s range.

Claimed fuel economy on the model ranges from 17.60 kmpl to 18.50 kmpl. The most fuel-efficient variant of the C3 Aircross is the turbo petrol manual. Pricing for the new model starts from Rs 11.65 lakh and extends to Rs 16.93 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Toyota Innova Hycross: Up to 23.24 kmpl

The last car on this list is the Toyota Innova Hycross. Offered with one petrol and a strong hybrid powertrain, the Hycross is the most fuel-efficient 7-seater currently on sale. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre unit which produces 172 bhp and 209 Nm. This unit comes mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. The hybrid is a 2.0-litre TNGA unit which pumps out 184 bhp and 188 Nm. The hybrid unit comes mated to only an e-CVT gearbox.

The petrol unit returns 16.13 kmpl while the hybrid returns 23.24 kmpl. Pricing for the model starts from Rs 23.61 lakh to Rs 37.18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
