Google is reportedly testing a new feature for Android that will show relevant content from apps installed on your device.
Previously known as ‘Cubes’, the new feature has been under development since January last year and will let Android users keep up with their apps on the home screen.

Google is reportedly testing a new feature for Android that will show relevant content from apps installed on your device. Dubbed ‘Collections’, it will be initially available to those in the United States and will be rolling out to more countries sometime later.
Previously known as ‘Cubes’, the new feature has been under development since January last year and will let Android users keep up with their apps on the home screen.
At the recently concluded Google I/O developer conference, the company announced new tools for developers that help users re-engage with the apps they have already installed but did not show what it would look like.

But a new APK teardown of the Google Play Store (v41.6.26) by Android Authority suggests that Collections will have a widget with sections like Create, Watch, Read, Listen, Shop and Social displaying content from user-selected apps.

Collections will show all relevant app content in the dedicated space when users select a category. At Google I/O, the company also said that it has more than 35 developers on board to test the new functionality, some of which include Spotify, Pinterest, TikTok, Tumblr and Shopify.
Collections can also be accessed by long pressing the Play Store icon and as a full-screen overlay. At Google I/O, the company shared a few examples of how its new tools will show content from your cart from e-commerce apps and how apps like Uber Eats might show users their favourite or most ordered food. The tech giant also said that app developers would be able to show “personalised recommendations and promotions” so they can discover content and deals they might have missed.
It looks like Collections for Android is still under development and it is still unclear if and when it will be available, so we might have to wait a while before it shows up.
