HMD, the company behind Nokia mobile phones, is planning to launch its first smartphone in the Indian market by the end of this month. While an exact launch date is not confirmed, reports suggest a possible unveiling could happen on July 25. The upcoming device, initially known as the HMD Arrow, will now make its India debut under a new name.

As per the report, the company is facing legal trouble due to the ‘Arrow’ name for the device and HMD is expected to unveil the device with a new name.

HMD’s upcoming device could be a rebranded version of the HMD Pulse, which the company launched in the European countries in April.

The Pulse, priced at EUR 140 (Rs 12,460 apprpx), comes with a 6.65-inch HD+ LCD screen with 600 nits peak brightness and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by an octa-core Unisoc T606 chip. As for the camera, the phone has a 13-megapixel rear lens and an 8-megapixel shooter on the front. Equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, the device has up to 128 GB of inbuilt storage. The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging.

HMD Pulse is offered in Atmos Blue, Dreamy Pink, and Meteor Black colour options. However, new leaks suggest that the device could also be a brand-new model and will come with a new design, 5G connectivity, a better camera, upgraded specifications and a new chipset.

As per the report, the HMD’s device will retail under Rs 20,000 in the Indian market. This means the first smartphone from HMD will compete against popular models like CMF Phone 1, Moto G85 5G, Lava Blaze X and OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite.

The company announced the debut of its first smartphone in India earlier in May. HMD came up with a unique marketing strategy to grab the attention of users and initiated an HMD Name Our Smartphone contest on X, asking users to suggest names. Out of suggestions, HMD gave its nod to the name ‘Arrow’.
