Angel One Data Breach : Leading brokerage Angel One has issued a statement after several media reports claimed a data breach at the company. News reports suggested that the personal information of nearly 8 million customers of the Mumbai-based stock broking firm was leaked on Tuesday.
The brokerage has now released a clarification confirming that Angel One's customer data is secure, and there has been no new data leak incident.
Angel One Data Breach
An Economic Times said that a hacker has released the personally identifiable information (PII) on a website including names, addresses, contact numbers and bank account details. The hacker claimed to have access to the stock holding of customers and their profit and loss statements as well.
However, the brokerage has denied any such thing. “The recent media news pertains to an incident that occurred in April 2023, which was promptly handled, secured and reported to the relevant authorities,” it said in a statement released on X, formerly Twitter.

“We assure you that this incident has no impact on client data, securities, funds, and all client accounts remain secure. All our apps have been 2FA enabled and we have never stored client credentials,” Angel One added.
In an exchange filing last year in April, the stock broker had acknowledged suffering a massive data breach. “We are in the process of verifying the veracity of such claims, which suggest that certain client profile data (like name, email, mobile number); and client holding data may have been accessed in an unauthorised manner,” the firm had stated.
Worth pointing out here is that Angel One is India’s third-largest stock broking firm with about 6.5 million active traders. The broking firm ended the financial year 2024 with a total operational revenue of Rs 1,357 crore and a net profit of Rs 339 crore. Shares of the company were trading in the red at Rs 2225 apiece on BSE at 12:56 pm on Wednesday.
