Other than the Tata Nexon, the Mahindra XUV 3XO will also take on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

For the past three years, the Tata Nexon has been the largest-selling SUV in India. It was the table topper in FY24, FY23 and FY22, driving ahead of the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Hyundai Creta. But now, Mahindra is bringing the XUV300 facelift, christened as the XUV 3XO, and going by the teasers, this updated avatar seems like it can pack a powerful punch.

The Tata Nexon is feature-rich, has particularly high safety standards, offers multiple powertrain options and is diligently priced. All these attributes have combined to make the Tata Nexon the SUV segment leader.

Now, coming to the all-new Mahindra XUV 3XO, the vehicle will have its world premiere on April 29 . It will still be a sub-4 metre compact SUV, but a lot of changes have been made to it, both on the outside and inside.

The redesigned front of the Mahindra XUV 3XO has vertically stacked LED headlamps with LED DRLs. At the rear, you now see connected LED taillamps. The front and rear bumpers have been redone. The vehicle now has new 16-inch alloys.

The cabin of the Mahindra XUV 3XO looks plush now. There is a new touchscreen infotainment system with a new digital instrument panel. The steering wheel has been updated with controls for additional features. The vehicle now has front-ventilated seats. While the Mahindra XUV300 is the first model in the compact SUV segment to get a dual-zone automatic climate control, that same unit has been updated in the Mahindra XUV 3XO with a new user interface.

But most importantly, the Mahindra XUV 3XO gets a segment-first panoramic sunroof . No other compact SUV has a panoramic sunroof. SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, which sit in the segment above, have panoramic sunroofs.

The Mahindra XUV300 has always been a safe car. It garnered a five-star safety rating at Global NCAP. We expect the Mahindra XUV 3XO to follow in the footsteps and have a high safety quotient. Other than features like all four disc brakes, six airbags, a 360-degree camera and electronic stability control, there have been reports suggesting that the new car might as well have Level-2 ADAS, again a segment-first feature.

We expect the Mahindra XUV 3XO to have similar powertrain options as the Mahindra XUV300. There will be three engine choices -- 1.2-litre turbocharged multipoint fuel injection (TCMPFI) petrol (110PS/200Nm), 1.2-litre mStallion turbocharged intercooled gasoline direct injection (TGDi) petrol (130PS/230Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel (117PS/300Nm) -- and a couple of transmission options -- 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT. The TCMPFI and the diesel engines are expected to get 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT choices and the TGDi will have a 6-speed MT.

While the Mahindra XUV300 is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Mahindra XUV 3XO price in India is expected to be in the range of Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Other than the Tata Nexon, the Mahindra XUV 3XO will also take on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.
