Google Photos' Upcoming Feature 'My Week' Is Stolen From Retro App?

Google Photos has been reportedly working on a new feature called 'My Week'. Photo-sharing app Retro has pointed out similarities between its own app and Google Photo's upcoming feature. Not only does it imitate the concept of the Retro app, but it also seems to have a similar design. Olson posted another tweet in which he showed a side-by-side comparison between Google Photos' My Week feature and Retro’s feature. Sharp added that if the feature won't change much then he won't underestimate Google's potential to compete.

Google Photos has been reportedly working on a new feature called 'My Week'. Before even the launch of this feature, another app claimed it as their feature. Photo-sharing app Retro has pointed out similarities between its own app and Google Photo's upcoming feature. As per APK teardowns done by Android Authority, the 'My Week' feature allows users to share weekly memories with friends and family privately. Since it is an invite-only feature, users can select who they wish to share their memories with.

The focus of this feature is to keep friends and family updated about the happenings in your life by automatically sending them memories every week.

My Week Is Similar To Retro's Feature

It seems that this feature closely resembles the functionality of the Retro app. Not only does it imitate the concept of the Retro app, but it also seems to have a similar design.

Ryan Olson, Retro's co-founder and CTO, pointed out these similarities in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by stating, “feel like I’ve seen this somewhere…” This caption was accompanied by an emoji. Olson posted another tweet in which he showed a side-by-side comparison between Google Photos' My Week feature and Retro’s feature.

The CEO of Retro, Nathan Sharp, told TechCrunch that he isn't worried about this similarity yet as there is not the final version of the feature. He said that there is still time left before this feature goes public and it is possible that Google may change it before that. Sharp added that if the feature won't change much then he won't underestimate Google's potential to compete.

He also said that he thinks Retro users appreciate his app having a definite purpose.
