Google has introduced a new feature only for iPhone users to enhance their experience – Auto Dark Mode. As the name suggests, Google aims to turn the websites used via its app in dark mode automatically. This is an addition to the other advanced features in Google’s Search Labs but for iOS only.
The Search Lab experiment defines this feature as, “Stay in dark mode no matter what website you turn on. Turn on dark mode on your device to activate this experience so all the websites you visit match your app’s dark theme.”

Auto Dark mode: How to use this feature
The Google app on iPhone now offers the Auto Dark Mode. The app runs similar to a browser with its tab system. The application provides a number of Google Search Lab features. The latest is Auto Dark mode.
Turning on this feature will let users experience dark themes in all the websites. What is required? To enable this feature, the users must switch to the dark mode on their device. This ensures a consistent browsing experience without sudden shifts between the dark and light themes. Users can easily activate this feature by tapping the breaker icon in the top-left corner of the Google app.
But what if the user does not want to use it? Disabling this feature is as easy as enabling it. To disable Auto Dark mode for specific websites, users can click on the new sun icon that appears in the address bar, allowing them to revert to the site’s original theme.
Barring this, this feature does not apply to websites that already offer a native dark theme. Google also warns how the quality of the conversion to dark mode may vary. For now, the Auto Dark mode is only available in the iOS Google app and only for iPhones. However, the feature is expected to come on Android devices as well.
This feature is a part of a wider range of experiments under Google Search Labs, which includes Talk to a Live representative, Notes on Search and AI tools for browsing.
Upcoming Google updates
Google is also working on improving Google Lens’ ability to accept additional context for image searches, which could lead to more accurate and relevant results. Currently, to use this feature, users need to press the shutter button to start the search and then tap on the voice search icon to add context. This context can be in the form of voice or text input.
With this upcoming change, users will be able to streamline this process by simply holding down the shutter button to record their voice and provide additional context at the same time.
