Instagram is testing a new feature for creators on its platform. The under testing feature will allow users to experiment with reels. These reels will not display on their profiles and will allow creators to test new content without posting these reels on their profile.
The under development feature is called ‘trail reels’. The company started testing the feature this week globally. The feature aims to give creators a way to try different types of content and unleash their creativity by publishing reels that are hidden from their followers but these reels will be visible to non-followers.
After posting a reel using this feature, Instagram will provide the creator with insights about the reel's performance, including metrics such as plays, likes, comments, and shares. Based on these insights, the creator can decide whether to share the reel with their followers or archive it.
Instagram has been testing a new feature with select creators. This feature is an evolution of "Experiment mode," which was discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi in April. In a screenshot posted by Paluzzi, Instagram indicated that even though the reel won’t be visible on their profile, followers could still see the reel if someone shares it directly with them. It also notes that the reel will be archived after 24 hours if the creator chooses not to share it publicly.
In the latest tests, Instagram is trying out different versions of a feature that may involve varying time lengths before a reel is archived. Depending on the results of these tests, the final version of the feature, if it's made available to everyone, could still be modified. Creators who are part of the test will receive a notification introducing them to the feature when they attempt to publish a reel.
