Is the OnePlus 12 Glacial White worth the hype?

This one’s for all the OnePlus fans who have always wanted to get the OnePlus 12 in White but couldn’t ever do so. Well, the wait is finally over. The much-anticipated Glacial White colour variant of the OnePlus 12 has finally launched in India, albeit with a limited-edition tag. While our Chinese counterparts have been flaunting this beauty since launch, the arrival here feels like a breath of fresh air. So, what is all that’s new with the OnePlus 12 Glacial White and does it live up to the hype? Disclaimer — yes, it does!

The first impression? The Glacial White OnePlus 12 is undeniably stunning. The glass back has this smooth glossy texture that shimmers subtly when held against the light. This one exudes a sophisticated elegance, making the phone feel super premium in your hand, and I am not even kidding. That said, the only drawback here is that the phone gets easily smudged, but that’s something I am willing to live with.

Having said this, the standard black and green colour variants of the OnePlus 12 are no slouches in the looks department. In fact, up until now, my daily driver has been a OnePlus 12 in black, and I love the phone inside out. But there's an undeniable charm to the white that just made me switch from the black OnePlus 12 to the white in an instant. I mean, not only does it feel fresh and different, but it is also eye-catching and stylish. Think of it as the phone that makes you want to ditch the case and flaunt it.

Rest assured, the allure of the Glacial White OnePlus 12 doesn't come at the cost of performance. But, that’s a given, right? I mean, we are talking about a OnePlus 12 here! So, under the hood, you'll find the tried and tested Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that translates to smooth performance, seamless multitasking, and the ability to handle even the most demanding games with ease. The gorgeous 6.82-inch curved AMOLED display with 2K resolution remains unchanged, offering an immersive viewing experience with its vibrant colours, deep blacks, and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also retains the impressive Hasselblad-tuned triple-camera system on the back, along with the same capable front-facing selfie snapper. In short, the Glacial White is the OnePlus 12 you know and love, just dressed to impress.

This brings me to the sole caveat of the OnePlus 12 Glacial White variant, which I also mentioned at the top, i.e. its limited availability. With the sale starting from June 6, 2024, OnePlus hasn't revealed how long this colour will be on offer, so if you've been holding out for a white OnePlus 12, now would be your best chance to get one. Additionally, as per the company’s website, it looks like the OnePlus 12 in Glacial White is only available in the base 12GB plus 256GB storage variant, which is priced at Rs 64,999, the same as the green and black models. But, the best part — discounts and offers will let you buy this phone at a discounted price of Rs 59,999, which makes this deal an absolute steal.

Overall, the OnePlus 12 Glacial White is a fantastic addition to the lineup, especially for those who prioritise aesthetics. I think the white finish simply elevates the phone's overall look and, by far, the Glacial White is the best colour of the lot. However, for folks who aren't too fussed about colour and prioritise getting the 512GB storage variant of the OnePlus 12, the black and green variants might still be the better option.

That said, if you’d ask my personal opinion — I think the OnePlus 12 Glacial White is a compelling choice. The colour looks fresh, 256GB storage should still suffice for most folks and the price after discounts is solid. Ultimately, if you've been holding out for a white OnePlus 12 all this long, I’d say, go for it.
