The updated feature offers a range of EV-centric capabilities, including real-time charging port availability, charging speed filters, plug type filters, and the ability to add charging stops to trips. Additionally, Google Maps will show charging stations at locations like supermarkets in search results, making it more convenient for users to charge their vehicles while running errands.

How to Locate EV Charging Stations Nearby

To take advantage of Google Maps’ EV charging station feature, users can follow these simple steps:

Open Google Maps on your Android device, iPhone, or iPad. Before searching, ensure that your vehicle’s plug type is added in the “Electric Vehicle Settings” under your profile settings. Filter your search by selecting the “Electric Vehicle Charging” category under “More” in the search bar. Browse the list of nearby charging stations, which can be sorted by relevance, distance, open now, or top-rated. View detailed information for each charging station, such as charging speeds and the number of available ports. Tap on the directions icon to navigate to your chosen charging station.

Challenges and Future Developments

While the introduction of EV charging station features on Google Maps is a significant step forward, the EV industry still faces several challenges.
